Addressing Challenges in Student Success and Retention with Focused Research and Team Effort

Track 4: Assessment, Student Success, and Institutional Learning

Norma Patterson, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Argosy University/Phoenix; Marilyn Al-Hassan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Argosy University/SoCal; Ludmila Praslova, Director of Institutional Research; and Amanda Lebrecht, Director of Student Success and Retention, Vanguard University of Southern California

In this session we present the work of two different types of institutions in addressing retention challenges. At Argosy, a campus retention committee unified efforts across campus sectors that included Student Services, Academics, and Student Government, then introduced focused activities. At Vanguard, the University Student Success and Retention Committee has implemented a data-driven effort that helps us to predict attrition vulnerability of specific student cohorts, design interventions, and address the attrition/retention factors that are within institutional control.
